From Knowledge to Business: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Agriculture
The “Improving the Conditions for the Development of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Agriculture in Vojvodina and the Importance of Digital Education” conference will be held on September 19th at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad. The event is part of the ENAG project, co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A cross-border cooperation program between Hungary and Serbia. This conference marks the first in a series of meetings organised by the local stakeholder group.
Empowering Rural Communities Through Digital Education
The opening address will be delivered by Professor Dr. Nenad Magazin, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Novi Sad, who will introduce the TALLHEDA project, a complementary initiative focused on integrating digital education in agriculture. Among the distinguished speakers will also be Jana Zabunov, Director of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Academy, Nikolina Pupavac, Senior Project Manager at the Regional Development Agency of Bačka, Snežana Brusin, Assistant Director for the Business Sector at the Guarantee Fund of Vojvodina, Tamara Glišić Krivošija, Business Consultant at Foodscale Hub, and Professor Dr. Mladen Radišić, CEO of Foodscale Hub.
The conference will cover key topics such as the growing importance of digital education in agriculture, supporting women entrepreneurs in rural regions, developing local entrepreneurial ecosystems, and providing educational and financial tools to help women succeed in agricultural business ventures. Discussions will also include models for business incubation and acceleration, as well as innovative support mechanisms for women-led agricultural enterprises.
The ENAG project aims to empower women entrepreneurs in agriculture, particularly from rural areas, by creating a digital platform as its main focus. The project is structured around four key outcomes: mapping needs and providing access to training, developing learning tools, creating a digital platform, and transferring practical knowledge. Support is provided through a hybrid learning approach, including practical training and digital sessions. Additionally, interactive “face-to-face” boot camps and study visits will be organised to facilitate the exchange and application of successfully acquired knowledge and experience.
In the final months of the project, rural women entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to engage in a mentorship program, gaining access to experts from various fields for guidance and support in achieving their business goals, whether starting a new venture or enhancing an existing business. The project will last for 18 months and is implemented in Bač-Kiskun and Csongrád-Csanád counties in Hungary, and the Bačka region in Serbia.
The primary target group for the project are young women aged 15 to 29, but it also addresses women entrepreneurs in agriculture from rural areas. The project emphasises the importance of digital education as a key tool for empowering women in rural areas, providing easier access to information, markets, and resources needed for the development of sustainable entrepreneurship.
