Cracking the data to mitigate fruit cracking

Fruit cracking is a costly and persistent challenge for farmers, leading to reduced fruit appearance, water loss, pathogen invasion, and significant yield loss worldwide. This issue is exacerbated by the rising demand for increased food production, consumer preferences for larger, sweeter fruits, and climate instability.

CrackSense aims to tackle this problem in citrus, pomegranate, table grapes, and sweet cherries by developing and upscaling sensing technologies that provide real-time sensor data. Through experimental and piloting activities, CrackSense will improve agricultural practices for these crops and create a model that can be applied to other agricultural sectors.

Our role in the project

As leaders in Dissemination, Exploitation, and Communication (DEC), Foodscale Hub is:

  1. Communicating, disseminating, and exploiting the project’s results effectively.
  2. Generating awareness and developing a solid and identifiable image for the CrackSense initiative.
  3. Creating an effective and innovative communication, dissemination, and marketing strategy to engage stakeholders across the value chain and support the project’s goals.
  4. Developing a business and exploitation plan to ensure the project’s financial success and solution adoption by farmers after the project ends.
