Farmtopia’s path to empower small farms with digital technologies

Despite the agricultural industry’s increasing interest in Agricultural Digital Solutions (ADSs), their adoption among European farmers, particularly small-scale ones, has remained limited. For smaller farms, the challenge lies in accessing cost-effective digital agriculture technologies that bridge the digital divide and effectively boost their environmental and economic outcomes.

Farmtopia envisions a future where ADSs cater to the needs of small farms more readily, encompassing their creation, deployment, and affordability. By developing reusable software modules, business and governance models, and scalable infrastructure for ADSs, Farmtopia aims to reduce costs for both farmers and ADS providers. The project also facilitates the co-creation, deployment, and piloting of innovative ADSs while concurrently designing and validating supporting business and governance models.

Our role in the project

As leaders in Ecosystem Building and Expansion, Foodscale Hub plays a pivotal role in shaping Farmtopia’s success by:

  1. Developing and implementing a comprehensive Dissemination, Exploitation, and Communication (DEC) plan to maximise outreach and impact.
  2. Leading the Open Call procedure and ensuring widespread awareness through targeted dissemination on all channels.
  3. Monitoring project results to foster maximum engagement.
  4. Building synergies with complementary projects and initiatives to strengthen the network and exchange best practices.
  5. Designing a roadmap for scalable exploitation, sustainability, and intellectual property (IPR) management strategies to support the long-term adoption of project outcomes.
