George Tsiolas is a Project Manager at Foodscale Hub Greece. He holds a bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology & Genetics and a master's in Molecular Diagnostics. His studies led him to work at the Institute of Applied Biosciences of the Centre of Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) for the past ten years as an intern and later as a research associate. He became proficient in genomics and bioinformatics, using and developing cutting-edge molecular and analytical methods while working on many nationally funded projects. This knowledge enabled him to found μBio, a start-up that tackled the problem of antimicrobial resistance of pathogens in Greek aquacultures. Although μBio couldn't survive, this experience has given him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities of working in a start-up environment and changed his perspective on applied research. He has come to appreciate the importance of translating scientific discoveries into practical solutions that benefit society. He is now more motivated than ever to apply his skills and knowledge to real-world problems and create a positive impact on society.
